| For this classification, the region describes the area of the country (or countries) where the wine is most widely produced and originally gained it
notoriety. This sometimes corresponds to the official area designator (Appellation in France,
Denominazione di Origine Controllata in Italy, etc) but more often than not, uses general directional descriptions.
There are several wines listed that have no clear point of origin in the old world history, Semillon for instance is
thought by some to have originated in southwestern France although others dispute that. Pinotage is a very recent variety
originally concieved and cultivated in South Africa. This eliminates any chance to identify a signature style for the wine.
In those few circumstances, we have defaulted to the most common style produced in California. |
