Location: The Puget Sound AVA encompasses every county around Puget Sound. It also heads west of the sound in a ever decreasing sliver of land along the coast to roughly Port Angeles, at the base of the Olympic Mountains.
|
| Climate: The Puget Sound AVA is generally cool and extremely wet. Depending on the location relative to the Cascade or Olympic Mountains, from twelve to sixty inches of rainfall may occur. Due to its proximity to the Pacific Ocean, its winter weather rarely drops below freezing but that same proximity makes it one of the coolest summer AVAs in the US. |
Comments: There are a relatively small number of wineries in the Puget Sound AVA. Growing conditions are often less than ideal due to its cool climate, so many wineries source grapes from other parts of Washington.
