Climate: Warm to hot days during the growing season. Lower elevations stay relatively warm at nights while higher elevations cool due to the mountain breezes.

| Comments: The Sierra Foothills AVA has the highest average elevation of any of the major AVAs in the state of California. In some areas, much of the soil is volcanic resulting in high acid levels and in some areas, a distinct mineral flavor in the wine. |
