Ely Reeves Callaway Jr. defied experts who considered Southern California unsuitable and put Temecula on the map as a serious wine producing region. when he found what he believed to be the perfect spot to plant his vines. In 1969, the Callaway vineyards were planted on a 1600 foot plateau, located below the peaks of a foggy mountain range "where the sun shines through the mist".
Meritage, our on site restaurant offers truly unique fair designed to compliment our estate wines.

After selling his estate in 1981, Callaway went on to found the Callaway Golf Club company, growing it to become the largest in the world.
