Abouriou is an extremely rare Varietal grown in an area of southwestern France known as the Côtes du Marmandais.  The few plantings in California are also known as Early Burgundy due to their tendency to ripen early.  However, it has nothing to do with the region of Burgundy and there appears to be no clear context for why it bears that moniker in California.

The wine is high in tannin but relatively low in acid making it unsuitable for long aging although it should do well up to about 5 years.
